Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary and Lenox Mt.: Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary is a gem that is run by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. There are a number of small ponds, pretty woods, and a rather challenging round-trip to the top of Lenox Mt. (2123 feet in elevation) with its tower. Total distance 5 miles, ascent 900 feet. North Point, Catskills: This hike, through pretty woods to a northern Catskills summit with an expansive view, is a must. If you havenÕt been to North Point, come along! Round trip 5 miles, ascent 750 feet. There is a choice of trails, and participants will be asked to look at the map as a group and determine our choice of route. Overlook Mountain: This Catskills hike goes along an old carriage road past the Overlook Hotel ruins and then continues to a fire tower at the summit. There are great views of the Hudson River Valley. The round-trip hike distance is 5.0 miles and the ascent is 1400 feet (summit elevation is 3140 feet). Black Mountain Area: This hike could be a tune-up for the summer. The plan is to visit Lapland, Millman, and Fishbrook ponds. From Fishbrook Pond, we will go down to see Lake George at Black Mountain Point. Then, we will go up to climb Black Mountain and head back to the trailhead. Tremper Mountain: This Catskills hike will start from the Route 40 parking area. Most of the trail follows an old dirt road that goes to the fire tower at the summit. There are great views from the fire tower. The round-trip hike distance is 6.0 miles and the ascent is 2030 feet (summit elevation is 2740 feet). Wallkill Valley and D&H Canal Railtrails - 42 miles - Portions paved, other portions hardpack. This ride is mostly flat but with climbs on 2.7 miles of road each way between the two trails. Northwest Connecticut Ramble: We will do a loop trip that will include finding AMC Northeast Camp ( a rented cabin that is one of the nearest to eastern New York) wandering down into gorgeous SageÕs Ravine on the Appalachian trail, returning back over Bear Mountain (elevation 2316 feet) with its good views. An area that is a lot of fun to explore. Suitable for families with children who like to hike. Grandparents, bring your grandkids! Round trip 4 miles, ascent 750 feet. Familyfriendly Hike and Picnic in Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary: Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-see destination, just outside of Lenox, MA (Berkshire Hills). It is a gem of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. There is a small museum, and a wide variety of trails to explore, including several ponds. Something for all ages, and we can decide our hikes, based on who signs up and the weather. Grandparents, bring your grandkids! Wakely Mountain: The three-mile hike up Wakely Mountain is fairly steep. Near the summit, a trail leads to the right where there is what remains of a wooden helipad. Blake Peak and Mt Colvin: The plan is to leave a car at the Au Sable Club parking lot and start at the Elk Lake parking lot. We will follow the Elk Lake-Marcy trail for 5 miles. Then, we will follow the Pinnacle Ridge to Blake Peak and Mt. Colvin. From Mt Colvin, we will head to the Au Sable Club parking lot. The distance is 16.4 miles and the ascent is 3400 feet.
