Volunteer Opportunities with Mohawk-Hudson Chapter

The committees below have been set up within the Mohawk-Hudson Chapter. Members, and prospective members, who are interested in volunteering, should contact the committee chairs directly to volunteer to be part of a committee.

See the Mohawk Hudson Executive Committee Page for addresses and telephone numbers. There are tasks from short well defined ones to long term research projects. There are armchair tasks and outdoor tasks. Everyone interested can contribute and be a valued member of the committee and the chapter. It really can provide a great deal of fun and self satisfaction.

Outings: Kevin Cox 279-4839 <mmcloug1@nycap.rr.com>
Hiking is only one of the major activities of our club. Members also enjoy cross-country skiing, bicycling, canoing, picnicing, ... if it's outdoors, we'll do it! Every outing needs both a leader and co-leader. Leaders love to share their favorite trails, roads and rivers or, more often than not, take others along to places they themselves have always wanted to try. Co-leading an outing is a great way to "get your feet wet" (figuratively speaking, of course!) and gain the experiance of leading hikes and other favorite activities. We try to plan a variety of outing at various levels of difficulty to give everyone an opportunity to participate, or even to challange themselves with something new if they want. To participate as a leader, or to suggest interesting outing ideas, contact Kevin and let him know what you think.

Trails:Clark Galloway <cmtng@msn.com>
In 1999, the club took on the responsibility for trail maintainence on the newest section of the Long Path. The Long Path is a 326 mile hiking trail extending from Fort Lee, on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge, north to John Boyd Thatcher Park, near Albany, NY. Future plans for the trail are to extend it to the Mohawk River and, eventually, farther north into the Adirondacks.

Membership: Billy Dufur (518)477-7132 <edufur@aol.com
Membership is the key to a healthy chapter. Representing a new geographic area, we have the opportunity to have a lot of new members join our chapter. We need to make them feel welcome. You could volunteer to design our chapters membership packet, call both new and potential members to welcome them. Help survey the members needs and interests. Many tasks and a lot of sociability. Call Billy to volunteer.
